"you're a duck" says the barman.

"Yes" replies the duck

"A talking duck" says the barman,

"Yes I know" says the duck

"I'm not sure I should serve you"

" look I'm working on a building site just down the road and I would like
to come here after work for a couple of beers then I'll go home, I won't be
any trouble, I've got the money here under my wing here to pay for it so
what's the problem?"

"Well that sounds ok" says the barman, and he serves the duck his beer.

The duck drinks his beer pays and leaves.

The next day the duck comes back, jumps on a stool "pint of lager please
barman"

"Hey I'm glad you came in" says the barman "after you left yesterday a
ringmaster from a circus came in to put some posters up, I couldn't help
but tell him about you and he said no matter how much you're on now he will
pay you double if you come and work for him.

"that sounds great" says the duck "but tell me something isn't a circus a
big canvas tent with wooden poles and lots of ropes?"

"Yes that's right" replies the barman
their alphabet from the Romans, but quickly realized that they had three
sounds for which the Romans had no letters. These they supplied by taking
three symbols from their old runic alphabet: w, p, and 8. The first,
literally double u, represented the sound "w" as it is pronounced today.
The other two represented the "th" sound: p (called thorn) and 8.
 Comments

Space Stuff For The Beeb

Shuttle docks with space station
almost only using my mobile. My mobile is a Palm Treo 680 so in its day was
highend as mobiles go but most of what I will share with you should ring
true for a lot of mobile around today both "smartphones" and less "smart"
phones.

Let's start with viewing BCUK on your phone. 2 things to bear in mind data
amounts and the "look" of the site.

These things go hand in hand as having the full web look with all images
needs a lot of data downloaded to your phone. This may be blisteringly
quick on a 3G phone but can be a drag on a lesser connection. So one of the
first thing to accept is that you need to balance the look with the speed
of use.

On Ask or Answer group someone ask about a mobile version of BCUK. Well
there are mobile or .mobi site for large site such as the BBC but I doubt
that BCUK would go that way. What a mobile site is is basically a stripped
version of the main site with images reduced or remove and stuff done with
things like javascript. It is possible though to achieve this your self
either but changing settings in your mobile browser or using a mobile
friendly portal.

Browsers such as Opera have there own server centres that achieve this and
deliver a greatly compressed content to your phone. Opera mini is a java
app available for a great many phone and worth a try. With Opera or your
stock in built mobile browser take time to check the setting as you can
disable images or have them visible in a lesser quality. In the setting you
can enable or diable other things that may affect the data require and
speed thing up.

Portals, these do similar to Operas data servers and allow you to search
the web but compressed data be delivered. I use Skweezer.net for this and
also Google. Open Google on you browser and have a look at the setting
page, just follow the link at the bottom. Once there check out the setting
available and adjust accordingly.

This should help with viewing the BCUK site on your mobile but just play
about with these thing until you satisfied.

So you can view the site what about posting. Well the way I do it is by
email. In the setting pages on BCUK once you've logged in got to the Mobile
tab and there is all you need for setting up mail2blog. Place the email
address for your posting in your phones contacts and your read for
business. A lot of lower end phones are setup for email so have a bash at
setting it up for your provider, this maybe easier than you think as a lot
of phones and provider have info or wizards to do this for you.

Once setup just compose you post in the email app add any pics and post
away.

So that's how I get by and again this isn't a definitive how to just a few
pointers so hope its of helpl
 Comments

Ouch Ouch Ouch Feck Ouch Ouch

Started actually putting holly in wreathes today.
 Comments

Naughty, Very Naughty.

BBC UK
