Brechin ejected from Scottish Cup

by Palmblogging @ 31.01.2008 - 03:04:02 pm

Aberdeen finally know who they have in the next round after the ifs and buts of the last round replay. I got this from BBC Sport.

Brechin City have been thrown out of the Scottish Cup after fielding two ineligible players in their win over Hamilton Accies.

The Scottish FA have decided Hamilton will now progress to a fifth-round tie at Aberdeen on Saturday.

The SFA ordered a replay and fined Brechin £10,000 when it emerged loanee Michael Paton should not have played.

That decision was overruled when it came to light that Willie Dyer was also ineligible for the tie.

Both men were signed after the first match between the teams, and SFA rules stipulate that only players registered prior to the first game in a cup tie can feature in replays.

Google Mobile

Google 'improves' mobile search

Internet search giant Google promises "faster, more relevant results" with
its new mobile service. This is at
http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/rss/-/2/hi/technology/7217747.stm

At first you got the option to try this new version but now my 680 goes
staight on to it. I have had this over a day and don't like it at all. The
setting also have a localisation option, I don't know how that works but I
find that aspect a bit uneasing.

Treo 680 Update Stuff

by Palmblogging @ 31.01.2008 - 01:06:01 pm

I have still not updated my 680 yet I have read others tales about their
expiriences in doing this. Reading Palm-Mac through Quick News this morning
I noted that Murray has adopted a position similar to mine. My main
influence in not updating is Debbie. She asked if I had a problem with the
phones current state and how it works. I replied no and she said why have
the possiblity of introducing problems then.

Heres part of Murrays post and have a look at his site for the full thing.

"I still haven't bothered to "update" my 680 mainly because of 2 reasons,
if it ain't broke don't fix it being the main one and sheer laziness being
the other. I've not had an issue with battery life since I got the Seido
1600 extended but still normal size battery nor has stability been a
problem for the 680."

DAB Radio

by Palmblogging @ 31.01.2008 - 12:28:02 pm

Caught this on www.digitalspy.co.uk

I have a DAB radio myself and really enjoy using it. It just shows there is
resistance to this " everything digital is better" push that's going on
just now. With TV going that way cause it suit government maybe there is
more money in it if DAB fails.

This is the report from DS :
DAB Digital Radio now accounts for 10% of all radio listening in the UK,
according to new figures from RAJAR today.

The share of listening during the fourth quarter was up significantly from
8.6% in the previous three months and came despite the closure of stations
such as Core and Oneword.

he platform has come under fire in recent weeks, with a report from
telecoms analysis firm Enders warning that high transmission costs,
overcapacity and what it described as "not enough enthusiasm for DAB from
listeners or advertisers" could combine to promote an AM-like decline of
DAB's future viability as a mass-market platform. One radio executive was
even quoted in the report as comparing DAB to Betamax, a claim criticised
in the blogosphere.

Today, the Digital Radio Development Bureau - an organisation funded and
supported by an array of groups including the BBC, national multiplex
operator Digital One and commercial radio industry body RadioCentre, said
that the RAJAR results represented "good news for an industry that is
currently making some natural adjustments designed to deliver an even
stronger DAB proposition going forward".

Listening via DAB came ahead of listening via digital television (3.1%) and
the internet (1.9%)

Murray Bought a Treo 500v

by Palmblogging @ 31.01.2008 - 10:54:01 am

Treo500

Wow an other device bought over at Palm-Mac. If Mrs Murray ever finds that

gadget account she could have a wee spending spree herself.

As Murray writes,

"Ha ha!! That eXpansys refund money from the failed HTC Advantage

experiment sat all of a week in my paypal gadget account saying "please

spend me"...so I did. I've been itching to get my hands on a treo 500v so

came to a

deal with a "celebrity" owner for his barely used one. Have a guess who it

is... "

Go to Palm-Mac for the rest of this story at

http://palmmac.typepad.com/palmmac/2008/01/ive-bought-a-tr.html

It will be interesting to see how he gets on with this Treo and its non

touchscreen.

Unlikely best friends

by Palmblogging @ 31.01.2008 - 07:44:01 am

A rabbit and an eagle have become unlikely best friends in China.

The owner of the eagle put the rabbit in its cage at Beizhamen Bird Market,Zhengzho City, for the bird's dinner.

But instead of following its predatory nature, the eagle made friends with the startled but fortunate rabbit.

"The rabbit very humbly combs the eagle's feathers with its mouth," the

surprised owner told Oriental Today.

"The eagle is four-months-old, and I threw him the rabbit for food, but

apparently he doesn't know how to enjoy his meals."

Palm Stuff

by Palmblogging @ 30.01.2008 - 01:50:01 pm

I have not blogged much Palm stuff lately so apologies if you drop in here
for that. There are site such as Palm Addicts, Palm-Mac, PDA247 and The
Morning Paper that are able to accsess Palm news better than I. I therefore
don't try to be cutting edge that way. What I can do is report on Palm
usage in our house hold as it happens.
We are down a Tungsten E just now due to power button failure. We have a
friend with a couple of screen damaged Zire 71s so I will try to get a PDA
out of the E and 71.
The 600 has been hard reset clearing all. Its a while since I got the 680
and find I don't need anything of the 600 so that's it clean for Debbie as
her mobile is still doing its battery thing. I will load some stuff on the
600 and introduce her to the text and phone apps and I'm sure she will
enjoy it. Software will be kept to essentials for ease of operation and
stability. The threaded text system will probably be the clincher for her
along with a Suduko game and Pyramid Solitaire. I may get the Brain Traing
gake for her as she likes it on the Nintendo DS that Tegan has "borrowed"
from our eldest daughter.
Me my 680 is used for texting, web and email. This blog is actually the main
source of emails generated on the 680.
Well better get back working as I just had a smoke break and was able to do
this post.

Chance To Crush a Speed Camera

by Palmblogging @ 30.01.2008 - 12:46:01 pm

1233104

I think this would be great fun to have a bash at. This is courtesy of Orange news pages. Go to their home page find news then quirky news and some amazing stories.

A businessman is offering motorists the chance to get their own back on speed cameras - by crushing them with a 17 tonne tank.

Bill Bailey, who runs a paint ball business, will set motorists up in his Abbott 433 Self Propelling Gun alongside an expert driving instructor.

They can take the caterpillar-tracked tank for a spin around a Somerset quarry, and finish the day off by mowing down a mocked-up speed camera.

"It will cost about £100 for an hour in the tank, with an extra charge of £60 to crush the speed camera," he said.

"I think it will be popular with motorists. A lot of people may think that is a reasonable price to pay to destroy a Gatso.

"There is also the option of blowing one up. The gun only fires blanks, but we can simulate an explosion at the other end with pyrotechnics."

Dons Loan Deal

by Palmblogging @ 30.01.2008 - 12:46:01 pm

From BBC Sport: But this I just don't understand. This guy has only
played one full team game at Boro. Yet on a loan deal do the Dons not have
any young midfielders of their on.

Boro midfielder in Dons loan move

Aberdeen have signed Middlesbrough midfielder Josh Walker on a loan deal
until the end of the season.

Walker is a graduate of the Teesside club's youth academy and has captained
the England Under-16 and Under-17 teams and made his full Boro debut in
2006.

Sone Aluko, Walker's Aberdeen and England Youth team-mate, told RedWeb:
"Josh is a very good player technically and well thought of in England.

"He is really looking forward to it and desperate to show what he can do."

A Poem

by Palmblogging @ 29.01.2008 - 06:50:01 pm

I woke early one morning, the earth lay cool & still,
When suddenly a tiny bird perched on my window sill,
He sang a song so lovely, so carefree so gay,
That slowly all my troubles began 2 slip away,
He sang of far off places
Of laughter & of fun,
It seemed his very chirping brought up the morning sun,
I stirred beneath the covers
Crept slowly out of bed,
Gently shut the window & crushed his fucking head!
I'm not a morning person!

Community Alarms In Fife

by Palmblogging @ 29.01.2008 - 09:46:02 am

I was looking at figures regarding this and found that around 6500 people have then if Fife. The council are to charge £1 a week, not much you think but this will bring in over £300,000 a year to the councils coffers. This is not an unsubstantial amount for a council needing to make savings.

Gonks

Phone Boxes

by Palmblogging @ 29.01.2008 - 09:46:02 am

Late Posting Today

by Palmblogging @ 28.01.2008 - 11:18:02 pm

Well today I never found time or inspiration for posting. Not had a day
like that for a while. I was a part day at work and lunchtime discussions
and chat can be a great inspiration and opportunity for posting. My joke
sending friends have not text me anything I could publish here.
I still have to hear from Paige and Ben about how their Palms are getting
on. I assume that since I have not had a text about them that they work
fine and haven't crashed. That's the beauty of the Palm OS though.
Funny thing yesterday was when I googled for a picture for my cartoon
hotties post I used the image search thing and the amount of cartoon porn
was amazing. Each to their own I suppose. That reminds me I have never had
a spam text inviting me to savour Britney Spears intimates for a while.
Well I didn't get to sleep til 3.00am this morning so its of to bed now.

Hot Cartoon Characters

by Palmblogging @ 27.01.2008 - 02:28:01 pm

This is weird but you know how some people think some cartoon females are
hot, such as Jessica Rabbit from Who Framed Roger Rabbit and the Little
Mermaid. Well Tegan was watching Kim Possible today and she has the
potential to be like that as well. But the funny thing is they are all red
heads

300 Parrots Smuggled on a Bike?????

by Palmblogging @ 27.01.2008 - 10:42:01 am

Feathers fly at border patrol

Border guards in Belarus are hunting a man who tried to smuggle almost
three hundred parrots into the country on the back of a bicycle.
The guards saw the man while out on a routine patrol along the border with
the Ukraine.
But when they called him to stop he jumped off the bike and fled into
nearby forests.
The guards found the birds crammed into six boxes strapped to the back of
the bike.
Two of the birds died but the rest were checked by vets who gave them a
clean bill of health and passed them on to an animal sanctuary.

Meat Balls Cooked in Human Body Fat

by Palmblogging @ 27.01.2008 - 10:20:02 am

Seen this while googling for that Scooby Doo picture. It was on
http://incredibleartdept.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html

SANTIAGO, Chile "Bon appetit," said Chilean artist Marco Evaristti as he
presented his friends with his newest creation: meatballs cooked with fat
from his own body, extracted by liposuction.
Evaristti produced 48 meatballs with his own fat, some of which would be
canned and sold for $US4000 dollars for 10.

This is under the guise of art. I wonder how many people you would need to
liposuction to keep a chippy going

Scooby Doo

by Palmblogging @ 27.01.2008 - 10:20:02 am

one of the programmes that gets downloaded on our DTR/PVR is Scooby Doo.
Tegan loves watching it. This is also one of the cartoons that I used to
try and never miss when I was wee my self. It just shows how right they got
it all those years ago. As a brand Scooby still is going strong. There is
merchandise available for both kids and adults. The kids are still watching
him and those adults were kids that watched and now probably still watch
with their kids.
I think later I will have to look on Wikipedia just to get info on this
world famous dog.

If You Think Your Phone is Lacking ......

by Palmblogging @ 26.01.2008 - 09:52:02 pm

Brilliant post by PJ Arts over on Palm Addicts. After discussing the
smartphone if and ors he makes this point.
"My point is this: that as long as people are happily buying smartphones of
different brands, OS's and carriers, it means only one thing: these devices
have all got something right; yet, none of them have gotten it completely
right."

I have to totally agree with this just think how many different types makes
and models of car you see in a day.

Teeth Problems

by Palmblogging @ 24.01.2008 - 09:36:01 am

I still have a wobbly tooth that's been an ongoing issue since last year.
At times its been sore but I have never gone as far as Jan Kvasna. A
builder of 42 years of age, Jan was in so much pain that when NHS24 didn't
get back to him with a contact for emergency dental treatment he pulled it
himself with a pair of pliers.
OUCH!!!
