Even though there was a couple of days I did not post this has been my most
prolific month. It was that Scotland stuff I did during the game that did
it. I will have to try to do some more Palm stuff but the other thing do
let you let of steam at times. I think I will have to get back reviewing a
few old apps I have on my various devices to see if there are some old
freeware classics I can share.

Posting a Lot
Wow I Looked at My Stats Today
I don't know how good this is or not but today this lowly blog passed
25,000 page views. I have been doing this blog since between Christmas 2006
and New Year 2007. It surprises me that there has been so many reads of
this experiment in blogging with a Treo. Thanks to all and thanks for your
comments especially Frank.
Quickipedia
Today I was using Quickipedia to help finish a crossword at work. This is a
great app for accessing Wikipedia and is by Stand Alone. It is quick and
seems to use less data than going on Wikipedia with Blazer. Give it a try
and you will be impressed.
Mobile Phones
From Palm Addicts
Just last month we heard that there were some 2.68 billion mobile accounts
currently active in the world, but a new study by Informa has found that
there are actually 3.3 billion subscriptions.
Its not the CO2 that will get us warmer with all these mobiles we will
microwave the planet first.
St Andrews Day
Its St Andrews Day today and wow what a damp squib its is. Listening to the
radio and this is local stuff around Fife you would hardly know. Tegans
school is having a non uniform day wanying the kids to dress Scottishly.
St Patricks Day, on the other hand you would know it. Ear to ear Irish
bands and singers on the radio and a celebratery feel to things.
Come on make today a national holiday and celebrate out heritage.
Google Maps Beta
Google Maps with My Location (beta)
See your location on the map, with or without GPS. Save time and tedious
keystrokes finding where you are, what's around you, and how to get there.
If you have a GPS-enabled device, this blue dot corresponds to your GPS
location. At times, or if you do not have a GPS-enabled phone, you might
see the blue dot surrounded by a light blue circle (as shown on the right)
to indicate uncertainty about your location.
Why the uncertainty? The My Location feature takes information broadcast
from mobile towers near you to approximate your current location on the map
- it's not GPS, but it comes pretty close (approximately 1000m close, on
average). We're still in beta, but we're excited to launch this feature and
are constantly working to improve our coverage and accuracy.
The My Location feature is available for most web-enabled mobile phones,
including Java, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, and Nokia/Symbian devices.
Zen Bonsai
Two words regarding this app.
DON'T BOTHER
I don't have a clue what to do and the clocking up of hours when entering
the app takes longer if you don't look at it for a while.
Could be a read the instructions better thing again.
Digitizer Fix
Going to have to try out a few of the freeware digitizer drift fix option
on the oldests E2. The screen is out quite a bit and the built in
calibrater just can't cope with it. It is consistently out so you can
figure out where to touch. I may try Power Digi out it is a paid for option
by Dymitry at Palm Powerups. I think you can calibrate in the trial period
and it stays even if you don't end up buying the app. If this is true it
will be a good solution to it. Will download it today and try it out later.
Does The Daily Record Read Palmblogging
Seen this in BBC Sports gossip section and its from the Record.
Aberdeen manager Jimmy Calderwood has put himself in the frame to be the
new Scotland boss. Also on the list for the job are Billy Davies, Jim
Jeffries, Souness, Craig Levein and Mark McGhee. (Daily Record)
I thought it an obvious consideration for both the SFA and Caldo in respect
of his contract. If this happens God only knows who Aberdeen will get.
Treo680
That quite a while I have had my 680 now and I thought I would share my thoughts with you. Now remember I have had a 600 and a shitty old Nokia 3510i before as phones but also a Zire 71 as well.
The 680 has been a good amalgam of 71 and 600 with all the os5 stuff I missed on the 71 with the 600 namely the 320x320 screen. When I fire up the 600 while passable its not as sharp as the 71 or 680.
I slightly prefer the 600s keypad to the 680. I just get a few to many typos now that I didn't get before.
As I stated in the post before about Argos I have found I can download pictures from the net to Treo or card and this has allowed me to have more pictures for posting to this site. I don't know if this was possible on the 600 as I never tried it as the sreen res was a bit low.
Other things I have tried are 3GP video downloads and video streaming but I have to keep an eye on the data even with Orange PAYG £5.00 a week limited unlimited bundle. I have even listened to a couple of Palm Addict podcasts. I have found that some of BBCs content seems unavailable now that the 600 allowed. This could be BBC changes or me not getting it right. All in all I am happy with my 680. I do struggle some days battery wise and have to charge at night when I get home but I do realise that large data useage has a bigger impact on the battery than any calls. I have done the reset thing that Statto pointed out in my comments. It helps but since I had a totally drain I allways get 99% when I disconnect my charger. So my shock at waking to a drained Treo has turned to joy.
Palmgear Alas No More
Seen this on Palm Addicts and it shows another signpost of Palms demise
that the software for Palm OS doesn't seem a big draw these days.
PalmGear integrates into Pocket Gear
It seems that PalmGear has now been integrated into the PocketGear website.
After making the jump to Palmgear you are now integrated into the
PocketGear website and you then go from there to new and updated software.

Missed a Few Days
Just noticed that I had not posted in a couple of days. I have no real
reason for it but not really inspired to do it. I will have to try not to
get into that habit again as a while back I only post 17 times one month.
I don't think I should just post for posting sake though.
McLeish
Well that was a bit of a bummer hearing he'd left the Scotland job bet at
least its not mid way thro the qualifying. Lots of names thrown in the hat
for the job but my thoughts are on one of the outsiders. Caldo at Aberdeens
contract is up end of season so he would be a cheaper replacement for the
SFA. He is a good coach and has expireience in Holland. He did great things
at Dunfermline and although not consitently Aberdeen have shown brilliant
flashes this season. In the whole he has turned the Dons around. So that my
tip for an outside bet
Scotland
Well that the World Cup draw for us.
The Scots will also face Holland Norway, Iceland and Macedonia in Group 9.
We should end up as runners up here but after beating France in the Euro
qualifiers who knows what's possible.
Treo 680 Uses
We are having a bit of a dispute with Argos over a dining set delivery. Any
way I needed to get a picture to show Debbie an alternative table and chair
set. This is where the 680 came in, I was able to download the photo to my
Treo and show Debbie it.
I was never able to figure out how to do this on the 600 so its great to be
able to do this on the 680.
Ebay at Last a Win
In my quest for an other Palm for Christmas I have had a bit of luck. I got
a Zire 31. You may think this is an odd choice compared to the E2 I got or
my own selection of Palms. This is a Palm that is OS 5 has a SD card slot
but has a 160x160 screen and a lower number of colours. I think it will
more than suit the uses it will get. With a 1 gig card it will do for mp3
playing and the type of games such as Bejewelled or Crazy Daisy. It will do
the job for PIM stuff no bother.
There is no need for bluetooth for email or web surfing so the spec will do
the stuff its needed for adequately. I think it will be a well used present
when given
Zen Bonsai
Seen this as freeware at
http://www.palmfreeware.mobi/download-zenbonsai.html Thought I would
download it and see if any good.
ZenBonsai
Summary: Get a virtual Bonsai-Pet on your Palm.
Requirements:
Palm OS color device
ZenBonsai Description
The Bonsai will slowly grow, even if your Palm is turned of. This is a real
living plant, so take good care of it. Water it. Watch it grow. Cut it's
branches. Cut it's leaves. Direct it's sunlight. Master the age-old
Japanese art of Bonsai!
Football
Its a funny old game as they say. Scotland fail to qualify but McLeish is a
hero. England fail and McLaren is sacked. Its a heavy load expectation is.
If you expect little there are less disappointments, expect more and
prepare to be let down. This is a lesson to all in a way.
Novii Remote
Well I got the oldest boys E2 loaded with this last night and it worked a dream. The next step will be to put dvd video music system and telly on so that all devices are in one place for them. The Visor is back down stairs but he did use it. Being that it is an old grayscale device he was still well impressed by its remote control usage.
Remember this is a great way to use old Palms and the software is cheaper than a replacement. If you have an old remote on its last legs back it up to some of this type of app on you Palm and it will come in handy someday.
No Joy on Ebay
Ahh its frustrating beaten by 8 seconds. I though my supposed last gasp bid would be spot on but that 8 seconds made the difference. Well I will try for a Zire 71 I have my eye and and see how it goes.
Novii Remote
I tried this out on an E2 of the boys but no joy. I looked at their website
and the version updates and my version is well out of date. The have been
updates that cover the E2 so upgraded I have it will be well worth it to
allow both to have a remote for the digi box rather than a power struggle
if only one.
Ebay
Watching a few potential Palm purchases just now for pressies. I am really
keen on a Zire 72 for my elder daughter. I think the form factor and media
capabilities will appeal. You know the picture and video thing for a 13
year old. The 72 has bluetooth so I should be able to set it up for her
Nokia phone as well. She is on Orange so a talk about the deals you get is
well overdue. It would be great if she had email ability away from school
as well. Last weekends homework could have been done on Docs to Go and a
native word file sent to her email at school for printing.
So will have to see how it goes.
Current Treo 680 Usage
Yesterday was a light Treo usage day. I had 2 phone calls from my partner
Debbie and not much else. I appretiated my phone as a phone. We were mixing
concrete and my ring tone was load and clear above the noise the mixer made
so I got the call. The sound quality of the call was excellent and load
enough. It was everything you could want from a phone. Simple as that my
Treo was a phone today
Missing Details of 25 Million People
Just heard this on the news. 3he names, n.i. numbers and bank details of 25
million people have went missing at a child benefit office while discs
containing the info was in transit between departments.
That's just plain clumsieness. You would think that actually moving disc
with that kind of info was a bit last century. If they fall into the wrong
hands they would be worth a fortune. Even if the got a tenner from the
accounts of half of them that would be 125 million and who's going to
notice a tenner gone.
Hospital Parking
Why do you always have to wait so long to get a space in a hospital
carpark. You would think after all these years they would realise how many
people on average use them. Plenty permit parking for staff but not for
visitors who pay for the privilage.
Palming Today
Was in Perth for the lights being switched on and took the 680 but no
digital camera. So all todays photos were taken by the Palm. That's us in
to the big run up now.
The Let Down
Well I must feel like a lot of Scots today totally deflated. Ah well World
Cup draw coming up and we can do it all again. Never dull following the
national team.
Damn
That's it glorious failure again Italy 2 Scotland1. Remember this is the
world champions
Tension
This is unbearable at least if we go out we have tried. 10 mins to go. Pass
the vallys.
Football Commentators
Don't they speak some pish at times?
Radio
I am listening to the Scotland game on radio at home. We don't have $ky who
have the TV coverage so radio it is. I don't pub it cause I don't drink now.
It takes me back to when Aberdeen won the Cup Winners cup. Many of the
games up to the Final were not shown live and I listened to the radio. I
remember one Dons Euro campaign listening to a German station for a penalty
shootout. Now a days I check the web from my 680 and it keeps me up-to-date
with scores.
Scotland
Oh my god we're level cmon boys go for it
SD Cards
Seen a couple of 1gig SD cards in Aldi last night at £5.99. They are described as photo card but may get one to try in the E2 I got recently. There are ones on Amazon at 97p but when you add pp it comes up fair bit. I have a couple from Amazon and had no problems with them at all.
