Halloween

by Palmblogging @ 31.10.2007 - 11:18:02 am

Its Halloween tonight and I just hope we get some old fashioned guising and
not this trick or treat crap. I want a joke a song or something before I
part with fruit nut or sweets. None of this give us your money or we do
something nasty blackmail. I blame America. Just go to Wickipedia and look
up traditional British Halloween stuff. Remember we were all Pagans once
and some still are.

Her Phone Battery

by Palmblogging @ 30.10.2007 - 04:12:02 pm

Well my other halves phone battery is holding out. We don't know why it
discharged so quickly before but its up and running again. Will have to try
another approach to getting her using the Treo 600. The M130 she has has
had a workout with Pyramid Solitaire by Seahorse software. This is the
freeware version that was out a good few years ago. There is now an updated
pay version available with different levels of scoring. This is one of
these loose yourself ij games.

Design

by Palmblogging @ 30.10.2007 - 03:30:02 pm

Thought I would actually use a PC for the blog and change the colour scheme
here a little bit. I just used the built in options and left it like that.
I just don't know enough about all that web design stuff to add links to
other sites and that.
I will have to make up an email and save it with sites I normally look at
daily.
Hope you enjoy the change.

Seen this at www.digitalspy.co.uk and thought it really interesting.

Google ad revenue tops ITV1

Google's advertising revenue has topped that of ITV1 for the first time in the third quarter.

The shift has seen Google make a reported £327 million between July and September compared to ITV1's £317 million

PDA 247

by Palmblogging @ 30.10.2007 - 12:42:02 pm

Just registered for the PDA 247 forum this morning. I think it will be a
handy resource. I am on a few forums infrequently such as Brighthand and
Digital Spy but the all have different user names so keeping track of me is
hard and I tend to forget which is which. I suppose I should log them in a
memo on my Treo at some point.
There is a great interview with Murray of Palm-Mac fame there as well. So
might see some of you on PDA247 my name there is DavRoss. Exterminate
exterminate.

Driving

by Palmblogging @ 30.10.2007 - 12:42:02 pm

I think we need to drive on the righthand side of the road and all cars be
lefthand for the steering wheel. Why? Well I have my phone holder in the
center of the dash and am so righthanded its unreal. It would make it a lot
easier for me if this could happen. It would greatly enhance my Treo usage
whilst driving.

Making 680 Battery Last

by Palmblogging @ 29.10.2007 - 04:26:01 pm

I think last week I stumbled across the way to maximise battery life on my 680. I have a self imposed limit of puttimg £20 a month top-up on my phone and on Orange I use the £5 a week bundle for data. Well my limit was reached and I didn't top up so my data use was limited to a 1meg budle as part of my text-top up thing and a £12 bundle. So while using Traffic Stat to monitor my data useage I severly cut back on internet usage . Lo and behold my battery was only down to 48% by bed time. Its something I forget that data uses the phone connection and hence more power.

Why I Love My Treo.

by Palmblogging @ 29.10.2007 - 12:48:01 pm

Treo-680

One word EMAIL. I have 3 accounts and they are webmail accounts. Ihave
tried to setup Outlook Express on the PC but no joy. The Treo680 on the
other hand was a breeze to sort out with the inbuilt mail apps wizard.
Think how long it takes to boot up a PC and get into Outlook connect with
dialup and download email. Then try same with your Treo whatever flavour it
my be and there is a world of difference.
I know use email as easy as texting. This is why I love my Treo.

Photos on Palm

by Palmblogging @ 28.10.2007 - 08:46:02 pm

I have three Palm devices, 680, 600 and Zire71 that have cameras. They are
not at all hi resolution being sub mega pixel but they do the job of
capturing images. The Zire got me interested in digital photography and
after that I bought a 3 megapixel camera. This get brought out at times but
my Treo 680 os my main photographic device.
Lately, since Tegan got her T I have been sending photos taken by the 680
and sending them to her T. It loads them into Photobase, this app was on
the cd I got with the T. I am going to have to have a look at some other
photo viewing apps for her as Photobase is quite basic
The other thing I may try is a Veo sd camera that was out a while ago to
let her take her own pics.
Having a camera on a Treo though has never encouraged me in the whole photo
messaging thing though. I have only ever sent 2 of these ever. Using photos
and email though is a different matter as all the images apart from my
profile ones have been handled by my Palms. I suppose the good side of
camera phones is that more people do take photos and record stuff but its
what happens after that is a concern to other. The fact that historians may
have less evidence in the future as people store images digitally but don't
print it out. So the best we should endevour to do is store them on cd or
dvd at least. But meantime keep snapping.

New Member of Family

by Palmblogging @ 28.10.2007 - 06:58:01 pm

Well we have inherited a new pet in the last week a goldfish now called
Fishy Wishy. It had a tank but today we got some more gravel and I dug out
some old tropical gear I had. A filter and air pump was installed and
already Fishy is a happier guy. I used to keep fish a good 7-8 years ago
and see the fasination even with this humble goldfish. This may be
something I could get as passionate as my Palms all over again.

neep. Ah well Trick or Treat.

Ebaying

by Palmblogging @ 27.10.2007 - 03:46:01 pm

Been Ebaying for a couple of Palms for Christmas gifts. Classy guy second hand for pressies eh. Anyway was in for a Tungsten E and an E2. Well I won the E2 at £40 and lost the E at £33. I thought this strange as the E2 has bluetooth and is newer specced and was only that. I guess I got lucky there. I followed the bidding with my 680 and even used it for my final winning bid. So that one down and one to go. So pressure of a bit may wait til next month for a try for another. Since I've got one E2 it would be unfair to get an E as the second.

What a disaster for Aberdeen last night in that 3-0 defeat. It continues

Treo 600 Convert????

by Palmblogging @ 25.10.2007 - 10:18:01 pm

p178333f008_bigDebbies mobile battery is playing up big style. When a bog standard mobile
with no camera doesn't last a day on standby there is a problem. So its
getting another try and if its gubbed I think she will use the 600. With
having a M130 she is familiar with the Palm OS so basic operation won't be
a problem. Here's hoping her battery is away. It will be great clearing the
600 and making it hers. I think the threaded test will be something she
will appretiate. Some games and a camera for snaps should clinch it. Just
have to see how it goes.

In Ikea

by Palmblogging @ 25.10.2007 - 10:18:01 pm

Was in Ikea Edinburgh at teatime and found myself watching a guy on his
phone. It was a smartphone with touchscreen but didn't see what it was
properly. He had it in a Proporta case which looked the business. I have
one of them for my 600 and should really get one for my 680 but I am doing
fine with a Tesco Value camera case just now.

Retro Roundup

p210359b3c0_big
p3d1992bddd_big

So I've got on of Palms newest Treos even though its been out for a year or so. I don't really count the micro$oft versions of the Treo as real Palms. The lack of the PalmOS in them kind of makes me shy away from them, that and the price tag. The Centro is out in the US and it will be intresting to see if it ever comes to these shores. So what's happening with my old devices.
Some have been gathering dust for a while but seeing Murray at Palm-Mac and his Ericsson from the PDA247 Childline auction spurred me on to charge my Psion Revo. I should have a look for either a Psion or Palm IR modem cos just like Murray I have appretiated the excellent keypad on these devices. The Revo would make a great email device if I could get it connecting. The built in word and sheet apps are great and since the screen is wider it is a better solution than Docs to Go on a 320x320 Palm screen. So that the Revo possibly getting a try out. Yes I have said this before but I have to get the connection sorted. Failing that any offers for a Revo, charger and cradle, Psiwin CD and manual let me know.
The Handspring Visor Deluxe got new batteries just before it ran out today. Similar to the Revo I still need a conection through the 600 or try the 680 with Wireless Modem. I have a Fellowes Thumb/key pad for this. It was a good solution for faster text entry in its day and at £45 a cheaper one than Palm or Targas full sized keyboard. It came with both Handspring and Palm connectors but the Palm one was put away safe never to be seen again. I really rued this when I got my Zire71. I have tried Ebay to see if I could get one but no joy. Argos sold these when the Visor was out along with a backup springboard module so there has to be some out there in the back of drawers. I need some 2032 batteries for it and I would use the Visor for email with Eudora mail. So I will have to check out the connecting to a modem possibilities again.
The Zire 71 still gets used for ebooks and last night I watched Shawshank Redemption whilst in bed. I had ripped and converted it with FairUse Wizard and got it down to 200 meg. I will have to covert some thing else now. Since getting the 680 I haven't composed post on the 71 for sending in the morning again a try out with Wireless Modem on the 680 is needed. If I ever find a Fellowes Palm connector for that keypad it would be a bonus. I could also look for a IR enable phone for connection for Revo, Visor and Zire71, this would probably be easier.
Treo600is on charge just now the first since I got my 680, now that's battery life. The phone part has been switched of but it has been used 2 weekends in a row by my son Ben for a few hours playing games. I have an Orange sim in it and should put some credit on it to utilise Eireless Modem for 71 and hopefully Visor and Revo. I am still try to pesuade Debbie to use it as a phone. It will probably remain as a backup for the 680.

Palm Gear

by Palmblogging @ 21.10.2007 - 07:16:01 am

Just been on Palm Gear for a look around the Freeware with my 680. I saw
one or two bits of software I'd like to try out so I thought I would try to
download them. Previously I have had no luck doing this with my 600 but
tonight success. I downloaded Trace Crash and saved it into HandZipperLite
as it was a zip file, unzipped then installed. I was overjoyed so I will
have a serious look next week once I get an other weekly bundle. I won't be
hitting the data much next week as I will have only my Orange top-up stuff
as I have reached my own self imposed limit on adding credit.

Treo Email

by Palmblogging @ 20.10.2007 - 05:42:01 pm

p178333f008_big

I have went back to using Snappermail for Treo emailing. The built in app
on the 680 certainly was better than Versamail that I had on my Zire 71 but
2 things pissed me of with it. 1 I had to connect to my mail boxes
separately for each account while Snapper allows all three to connect.
Secondly it lost the login passwords every so often and I would have to put
them in for all 3 accounts.
So its back to Snapper just now. I may just have to read the manual for
Versamail and the 680 at some point to eliminate user error.

Palm Thoughts

by Palmblogging @ 20.10.2007 - 08:12:01 am

Really loving the 680 the battery holds out most days but need to do the no sim charge thing again soon. I am tending to max out the Orange "unlimited" £5 a week thing so the web app and data conection my be the big drain. I get annoyed with the battery monitor saying a full charge when plugged in and as soon as unplugged its down to 96 percent. Otherwise its going fine I have the odd reset but nothing like the 600. Speaking of the 600 it comes in handy when I for my kids using when they visit along with the Zire 71. It still gets it ebook work out at night and is my alarm in the morning. My Visor Deluxe is a bit unloved just now but still has batteries in it. I would love to get a Visorphone for a real proto-Treo expirience. Last time I saw one on Ebay it was about £40. You can get 180s or 270s for that. I really feel a trawl on Ebay is long overdue.

Ofcom and Government Conspiracy ?

by Palmblogging @ 19.10.2007 - 08:46:01 pm

Seen this on Digital Spy and have copied it fully and other bits relating
to the Analogue Switch Of.
Firstly this:

"Ofcom is to unveil an ambitious "migration path" that would transition
Freeview from the current DVB-T transmission standard using MPEG-2
compression to the newer DVB-T2 and MPEG-4 standards by 2009, starting with
a single multiplex.

The media regulator has been insistent that the adoption of new
technologies is its preferred way of delivering high definition content on
digital terrestrial television rather than using spectrum freed up during
the analogue switch-off process taking place through 2012. Parts of that
spectrum are instead to be auctioned off.

Speaking at the Westminster Media Forum yesterday evening, Richards refused
to be drawn on how many broadcasters would be involved in the migration
plan but admitted that the wholesale adoption of the new standards would
require consumers to purchase new set top boxes.

He did, however, state that any post-migration service would be free-to-air
in line with the current Freeview model.

The plan is expected to be published next month"

So firstly no use of freed frequencies for HD leaving more for the
Government to sell of. Secondly after being forced to get Digi boxes for
the switch of they will be fucked in a few more years. More money for
goverment and box manufacturers. Remember by 2012 we will be due an
election again which Labour will more than likely be trying to stay in
power. The millions and millions from the analogue sell of will pay a lot
of tax sweeteners. It was staggering what the Telecom firms paid for 3g
spectrum. I have always felt this was a Labour long game since the push for
a DDT system was proposed.

Pumpkin

by Palmblogging @ 17.10.2007 - 09:50:01 am

I had my daughter with me to work today and managed to get this photo of her. This is the biggest one we grew. This is the great thing about a PDA or phone with a camera, you are more likely to carry a phone all the time and capture these moments. Ok the resolution is not megapixel with the 680 but an image is saved, a memory is consolidated.
Just remember you phone is there and click away.

Toad In A Hole

by Palmblogging @ 15.10.2007 - 10:22:01 pm

I was out for a walk on Sunday with my kids when we discovered a frog or toad that was stuck in a drain at the side of the road. It was sat on a polythene bag and had no means of escape. Because of this I decided to lift the cover and lift the thing out. We laid it at the side of the road and the silly thing hopped, jamp and crawled on to the road so we moved it again to a garden gate where it wandered of to a pile of rocks.
Now you may be wondering what this has to do with Palms or Treos ? Well I know that in the months or possibly even a year ahead Tegan will talk about this with a Can you remember? So the photos I took with my 680 will help jog my memory of this event. I find it very useful as my Treo is always at hand to record silly little events for the future.
