Here's a picture of wee one playing with her Tungsten T. She was playing Chainz from www.astraware.com. Remember if tou open this on a Treo or connected Palm it brings up a page well suited for your screen.

Tegan Got Her Tungsten T
Yes today is her birthday and my wee one finally got her " handheld computer" Chuffed you bet she was. Already she has startd watching Grease. Imagine 6 year old and Grease is one of your all time fav films. It possible now that some of her comments will appear on this site. I have also thought there maybe a Tegan Palmblogging offshoot set up. A 6 year old with a blog let's see what happens.

680 Woe
I started reloading apps on my 680 after needing to hard reset the other night. I foolishly tried to load Power Run and the apps associated within it from mt 600's card onto the 680. It just didn't like it at all. It kept setting itself again and again so I had to clear all. Its really my own fault I had held of in trying this but ended up dping it anyway. Lesson learnt.

Palms Woes
The most of the past year has been filled with talk about Palms ills but I don't really subscribe to all this. I last year bought my 600 for £67 on Ebay. It was a few years old but what an introduction to smartphones it was. Yes the Treo design may be dated but haven't cars, buses, TVs kettles, cookers and washing machines basically been the same for years. And why the same for years, quite simply cos they work. OS5 has been around a while but I can watch films, listen to music, surf the web, edit and produce office douments, email, instant message and play quality games, let alone the normal phone functions on a Treo. Yup it delivers all I need from a handheld device. Multitasking is missing but hell I'm male we just aint designed for that either but get along nicely.

Birthday Soon
Tegans birthday is on Saturday and her handheld computer is in the bag. I have a Tungsten T, cradle, spare stylus's, case and 2X1 gig sd cards. I have 3 films done for the cards and will get at least another 2 for her. The software she likes is on it already. I have some of mum's relaxing music she likes on the PC ready to go on a card. Looks like we're sorted for Saturday. I know she will be pleased.

Not Had The Time
Well that's a weekend that I've had my 680 and still not fully setup everything have stuck some apps on it but not all I am used to on the 600. I am toying with using the 600's backup on its sd card and cloning the 680 with its stuff. I am a bit hesitant of doing that though due to the software compatibilty thing. I will just have to do it as I can and see how it goes.
I need to find time to run through my thoughts on the differences I have found during this upgrade later.
Really enjoying my new Palm though.

Forth Bridge Repairs
This is a little rant. Yesterday we went to Edinburgh. We were well aware of repairs on the Forth Bridge and left in plenty time. The delays weren't that bad and it only took half an hour longer. Ok with that then.
We did what we had to do then left to return home. We thought that since it was later in the evening that the delays would not be that big. How wrong we were. We hit the end of the queue around 7.00 pm well round the new Kirkliston bypass road. Boy what a line of traffic we met. Any way it took just ove an hour and a half to get to the tolls to be met by some cheerless git still needing a pound at the tolls. Then 5 lanes of traffic merged into one.
After crossing we headed for Asda at Halbeath as this seems to be the first toilet stop on the road.I was crippled getting out of the car after sitting so long and our bums were numb.
I really will be glad when these repairs are over as I will have to do it again next weekend.

Playing with 680
Well I have started to have a play and get the new 680 loaded up. First on is Google maps and its a dream to look at on the 680s screen. I think that's the main thing I have noticed with the 680 compared to the 600. The screen is so good. I haven't had much time with it tonight so will see tomorrow.
Its Here
A knock on the door from the postie filled my heart with joy. Yes the 680
is here. Its unboxed and on charge. I will resist my urges and allow a full
charge before playing with it. Can't wait til tonite.
Oh I can't Wait
Oh I'm so looking forward to my 680 I really hope its here tomorrow. Was
dispatched this afternoon and meant to be Royal Mail Next Day delivery.
A bit late about late people
Just thought I had to give a mention to 2 people who have passed on lately.
Colin McRae a Scottish world champion can I say anything else. What a guy.
Blessings for his son.
Ian Porterfield. Ex Aberdeen manager who replaced Fergie when he went to
ManU. Had a difficult job and never really fired up the support.
Happy Journeys to both and wishes to those they leave here
Moon Sand
This stuff is on Ideal World just now and seems great. I know Tegan would
love this. If she visits my work she always wants to play with sand and
this stuff doesn't seem as dirty.
Thinking Ahead
So as I did with Tegans Tungsten T I will have to plqn ahead for the 680.
The camera update and any other patches from Palm are a definate. From
there on it will be a case of one by one to ensure compatibilty and less
risk of resets. The 600 has at least one a day and I would be glad to be
rid of that. I think that will be tonites pass time just getting a list and
sources together.
Treo 680
Yes folks 680 not 600. I bit the bullet this morning and decided that my
new addition to my Palm family is a Treo 680. I had a look round the net
and got one ordered. Its new and not an Ebay bargin as I want the insurance
of a warranty just incase. I have went for the grey as I don't think
crimson would be my colour. Hopefully it will be here very soon so get
ready for my 680 expiriences being posted.
The 600 will be up for grabs in the family and I hope to get Debbie using
it. Tegan will asked but she will do fine with her Tungsten T.
Note Studio for Palm
Seen a bit about the demise of this piece of software on Palm-Mac and
Pda247. I got the Palm version freeon a PDA Essentials cover disc a good
while ago and was quite impressed with it. It allowed yo to organise things
in to "books" rather than categories. You could setup the first page as a
sort of index with each "chapter" a link to its content and so on.
Individual "keywords" could link to a defenition or more info and so on.
Once I had managed the syntax thing that made the finished word bold,
underlined or a link I started on a "book" of Astronomy type notes fact and
figures on my Zire71. It took a while with graffiti or on screen keyboard.
I tried to seen if it worked on my Visor as I have a thumbpad for it but no
luck. I had never got around to doing anything with Note Studio on the Treo
though.
It a shame its now discontinued as a Treo dedicated version would have been
excellent.
A TV Channel called Dave??!!!??
Seen this on Digital Spy
UKTV G2 is to be relaunched as Dave next month, focusing on a younger male audience.
Launching on October 15, Dave will be a comedy and factual entertainment channel and will be available on satellite, cable and - as we exclusively revealed last month - Freeview, replacing UKTV Bright Ideas on channel 19.
The name is based on the idea that "everyone knows a bloke called Dave".. Marketing activity to launch Dave will begin on October 1, with an on-air campaign created by Red Bee Media airing on the UKTV and Virgin Media channels.
Dave channel head Steven North said: "With a schedule for which most broadcasters would give their eye teeth, UKTV G2 is an incredibly successful channel with 10 million viewers in pay homes each month, but with relatively low brand awareness. Changing the channel name to Dave enables us to create a strong and noisy personality for the channel that immediately aligns us with our core 16-34 male audience."
Julia Jordan, UKTV’s executive director for business and operations, said: "There’s a definite opportunity for a channel like Dave on Freeview. The younger male audience is of very high value commercially and this demographic is currently under-served in Freeview homes."
Earlier this month, Nuts TV, a joint venture between Turner Broadcasting and Nuts magazine publisher IPC Ignite, also launched on the DTT platform.
Dave will air between 7am and 3am on Freeview channel 19, Sky channel 111 and Virgin TV channel 125.
The relaunched channel will see UKTV History remain at channel 12 on Freeview, but its DTT slot changed to 7am-6pm. On Sky 537 and Virgin TV 203, UKTV History will be available from 7am to 1am.

Teletext Mobile
Looking at Teletext last night and did the stuff to get the mobile link.
Here it is
http://www.teletextmobile.co.uk/portal.aspx?pn0&uid=br4l75xb7te2i7j
Will try this for a while compared to BBC mobile and see how it goes.
Lack of Sleep
Last night I had a severe lack of sleep. I have had difficulty getting over
for a while now so I end up reading with eReader or Isilo and composing
posts on my Zire 71. Last nigh I ended up hearing noises from downstairs
and it sounded like someone trying our doors. I thought it could be a cat
trying the catflap so got up to investigate. I found nothing so went back
to reading. Later it happened again. Going down the stairs I still heard it
and went into the living room. Here I saw Hammy or hamster on hind legs
trying to get something lying on its cage. Yes this was the noise.
Its bad enough having sleep trouble without a moose adding to it
Treo use
Its been a light useage day for the 600 today but the Zire 71 is on charge
for the night. I got to bed ready to read and it was only a few minutes
when the low battery warning came up at 18%. I don't like using the Treo at
night for reading as Energy Dimmer can't dim the screen enough like it does
on the Zire71. The only major Palm thing that happened today was the Treo
being dropped by my little one resulting in the blotch on my screen getting
bigger. Sounds like a reason for a new Treo?
Google Maps
This has to be a must have on any connected Palm or Treo. If you don't
already have it down load it as soon as possible. I have it on my Treo and
Zire 71. The fact it will save any info it has I can download directions on
the Zire and scroll through them offline later if needed. But I don't have
to do that as I have a Treo, I just let you know that you can do it. Anyway
on the Treo I have recently found this a godsend. Tonight I was in George
Street Edinburgh and needed to get back to Morningside. I am great at
getting places but not doing it in reverse. So I used Google maps and got
some directions back. I happened to miss a turn but yet again found my way
with Google maps.
Just remember that it requires a data connection and the costs that go with
it.
MEMORIES AINT AS DEAR AS THEY USED TO BE
I was thinking about the first card I got for my Zire71 a 32 mb MMC card at £40. That was not long after the 71 came out. I then got a 64 then a 128. The 128 did for a while but even that got tight. I knew it wasn't big enough for video so a 1 gig card was bought, this funnily enough also cost £40. So that was it as 1gig is the limit for a Zire71. I got my Treo 600 and used the 128 in it never thinking to fill it with apps like the71. The need though to have some music on it got the better of me and a 1gig card was bought for it. There was a year and a half between my 1 gig card purchases and the price had halved. Now just last week I got 3 cards all 1 gig and even including pp it was less than the £40 I spent on the MMC card I got for the Zire just those few years ago.
Blackjack Solitaire
This is by Seahorse and a great timewaster at that. Its one of those one
more game games.
Play the cards to get up to 21 in each row. If you bust the games up. Get
above the base score, in this case 95, or it ends. Do it before the time
limit for bonus scores. Bonuses also for Blackjacks, 21s and filling all
rows with 21s.
Download the trial and have a go.
City Time
Had a version of this built in on my Handspring Visor Deluxe and eventually
got it for my Zire71. I could even tell you if it is on my Treo. It a great
world clock and lovely in Hires.
This is help for the main screen and for the program in general. Help on
the various dialogs and menu options can be found by tapping on the (i)
symbol in any dialog.
Tips for Selecting Cities (applies whenever a list of cities is visible);
- Writing a single letter in the graffiti area will automatically scroll
the list to show the first city starting with that letter. For example, to
find 'New York' write the letter 'n' in the graffiti area when a city list
is visible.
- Pressing the hardware up/down buttons allows you to quickly move
through any city lists that appear.
General Tips;
- Tap or drag on the map in the main screen to show the name and time of
the nearest city.
- If the zoom functions are opertaing (see the Zoom menu), the hardware
up/down buttons control the zoom and mode of the main screen map. You can
also tap on the mode indicator when zoomed in to switch the mode.
- Tap the home city name (in the top right corner of the main screen) to
show the date in your home city for a few seconds.
- A star shaped indicator alongside any city indicates that daylight
saving time currently applies in that city.
Information about the day/night plot;
- The day/night plot always moves gradually from right to left across the
screen (as the earth rotates towards the east).
- Throughout the year the plot will change shape with the seasons. In
March and September, at the equinoxes, the plot will be almost square and
will be totally square towards the end of these months. Through June and
December, at the solstices, the plot will be oriented as far north or south
as it will go.
- Mid-day is represented by the middle of the lighter area of the plot.
Midnight by the middle of the dark area. As midnight passes over each city
it will move on to the next day of the week.

Clock Fix
Clock Fix2.2 by Thomas Chapman
I used to use this to keep the time accurate on my Zire 71 before I started
using Palmary Clock Wireless and its time and weather updates. I still use
it now and again and it does make the Zire keep good time. I dont know if
it is still available though.
Adjust clock error rate allows you to set your own numbers for the clock
error rate. Normally you would perform two calibrations for ClockFix to
calculate an error rate for you, but if you know what it might be then you
can enter it on this form.
Handle DST adjustments allows you to specify if you would like ClockFix to
handle changing the clock for you when Daylight Savings time begins and
ends.
ClockFix can now handle the time change notifications. This prevents some
applications from crashing when the time changes, and can greatly speed up
the delay seen when the time is changed.
Available with Palm OS 3.2 and later, Silent alarms allow ClockFix to
adjust the time without turning on your palm.
Some palm devices fail to change the clock when only adjusting the clock by
one second. Turn on Use Alternate Set Method if ClockFix doesn't seem to be
working on your palm handheld.
Treo 500v
Lots on this launch all over the established Palm sites such as Palm
Addicts, PDA247 and Palms Official Blog so I won't repeat things. Tempted
maybe as I still hanker after a Win Mobile device as I have never had one
before. Why a new device I hear you say? Well I've just came into some
money and a device upgrade is on the card. It leaves me wondering about a
Treo 680, a TX and phone or a Win Mobile device. So any advice if you use
these pass it on please.
Tarot Cancelled?
Whilst in Edinburgh I noticed a sign in a Crystal/Witchy type shop that
said " Tonights tarot readings are cancelled due to the tarot reader being
ill". I guess it wasn't in her cards then.
Salt and Sauce
We have been over in Edinburgh a lot lately and last night ended up getting
a bag of chips as we were a bit hungry. Now me and my other half are Fifers
through and through and I had prewarned her about the Edinburgh chippy
thing. I think she thought I was taking the piss. But lo and behold when
asking for chips the guy asked "salt 'n' sauce". It just seems strange to
us salt and vinegar types from across the Forth.
Zire 71 Usage
I posted some screenshots a few days ago to show the usage on my Treo600.
Here is the shots, again from AkApplog, of my Zire71's usage.

Screen Shots from Palms
This is the app I use for the pictures on this site that are programmes on
my Palms. Its by Linkesoft.
ScreenShot5 only works in main memory, not from a card.
Makes screenshots of the whole display, not only the upper quadratic
program area.
Auto-Repeat. Makes screenshots automatically every xx seconds. Start/stop
with trigger.
Internet Radio
Had Pocket Tunes fired up for a while and due to the Orange "unlimited"
bundle I get it was on Sky 80s 80s 80s radio. What a selection of 80s AOR
classics there was on. I only use the internet radio now and again and the
other day had a try with Kinoma Player as well. The media guide give an
alphabetical list of UK stations and more choice than Pocket Tunes list of
stations. I will have to play with Kinoma a bit longer though if it is to
be my media player of choice.
Ebooks
You may know that I am a great reader of Ebooks. I love how it works with
my Palm. It is lighter than a book. It is lit by its self. No page rustle.
Don't lose my page very often, things like that. It is the main use of my
Zire 71 just now. I find that I get periods where I am reading a couple of
books at the same time. I have a few readers on the Zire. Ereader, Isilo,
Mobipocket and Tomeraider. Tomeraider I hardly ever use due to not figuring
out the loading of it files. Isilo is handy as it reads txt files and I
know Adobe Reader can save pdf files to text. It also handles Palm doc
files. Ereader covers a lot of stuff on memoware and seems to be the main
reader catered for on a lot of ebook sites. Mobipocket and its PC companion
app also converts html file, pictures andtext and has news feed so gives an
offline rss type expirience. You sync the PC app with your feeds the
hotsync the palm. I don't use Mobi as much now as I am not as office based
at work. This function is more than covered by the Treo and mRSS.
I feel I am more than covered for all my reading needs just now.
Documents To Go
I bought version 6 premiun half price when Dixons was closing down in
Glenrothes. I used it now and again for reviewing and editing work stuff
before my job change. I recently cleared it from the Zire as I wanted a bit
more space memorywise. I still have it on my Treo as sometimes need it for
email attachments. Today though I fired it up on my Treo to compose a
statement supporting my nomination for the local Parents Council. The
statement is to be around 250 words so the word count feature in Docs to Go
comes in handy. I am composing it as a native word document so I can email
it on and it will open on the recipients PC.
I hardly use this so I don't think I will upgrade from v6 to the newest
version and any way "it may be old but it still does the job"
Time to Post
We were going out and I decided I need a poo. Oh that'll be another 20
minutes then she said. I went upstairs and sat down. Hell I thought I've
got to find sometime to run my blog site.
