MOBILE EMAIL

by Palmblogging @ 30.08.2007 - 08:44:01 pm

Do you text rathed than call because you don't want to get into conversation? Do you struggle to get all you want into a text? Are you on the move and want to stay in touch with the office? If you answered YES to all three then one more question Do you use a mobile email solution? A yes to this and you'll know what I am about to say is truth.
Most mobiles, smartphone or not can get to your email account. Palm has a raft of email apps and a lot of webmail you can get thro Blazer or the like. I even have an old Nokia 3520i that I can get apps for at Getjar to check email. Remember Paul Biba's post a while back about the true text costs as a price per kb. Well even at Orange UKs bare GPRS rate of GBP4.00 per mb a 1kb email is a damn sight cheaper per character than sms.
A while back I managed to have the Orange.net email on my Treo accompanied with my Yahoo account (look in mail options for info) and my old Beeb.net account ( pop3 not pop.beeb.net). This means different newsletters subscribe to over several years can be read. I had these as free accounts for infrequent use and going on the web was once in a while but since using them on the Treo they are very much active. One for everyday use, one for newletters and one for ebay paypal and asda type things all easily done from my Treo.

Why More Posts

by Palmblogging @ 26.08.2007 - 12:38:02 pm

You will have noticed a lot of post have appeared recently part of the
reason for this is that I have been compiling them on my Zire 71 at night
then posting during the day

Well well

by Palmblogging @ 26.08.2007 - 11:34:01 am

Aberdeen got a draw with Hibs then and the papers say its a certainty
Brewster will be Inverness manager. Caldo is resigned to him going but
praised him for his contrribution to the club. How often has this happened
that an old dog has learnt the pups a few things. I just hope Aberdeen can
get a few wins now and rise up the table. At least we are above Hearts

Orange GPRS Outage

by Palmblogging @ 25.08.2007 - 10:14:01 pm

Its been a while but by the time this is posted it will be over. Yes an
outage meaning no data usage on my Treo. I've tried all the things to make
sure its not me. You know with out the data usage type apps a Treo 600 is
just a bloddy big phone or a low res PDA. Its a comprimise of both but with
it the 600 is great. I will have to get a newer Treo and shelf the win mob
try out but that may change. Someday!!!!!!
What I was hoping to do to night was check emails, do some posts to here,
browse my bookmarks and funnily enough find out the origins of Trifle.

Amazed

by Palmblogging @ 25.08.2007 - 03:16:01 pm

I hope I am not tempting fate but the mighty reds are 2-1 up to Hibs. But
the amazement it Grandad Brewster has scored both. Could it be a hattrick
before he's of. Of the field and maybe to Inverness.

Input Solutions

by Palmblogging @ 25.08.2007 - 02:10:02 pm

I thought I would compose a post on my Zire71 and use the Minikeyboard app
that I downloaded a while back. On first usage the keys are a bit larger
than the Palm os's own keyboard. This has avoided the mistakes that I had
when I missed letters. The downside to this being that there is less room
left on the screen for what you've just written

I find that the mytreo.net forum at http://mytreo.net/forum/index.php?;wap2
an invaluable stop of on my Treo web trawls I usually have a look at lest
weekly. It covers all the Treos even the PDA only Treo 90. Hardware or Treo

Treoing Just Now

by Palmblogging @ 24.08.2007 - 06:10:01 pm

I am sat in the garden just now with Treo in hand awaiting an Asda delivery
sometime between now and 8.00 pm. I had a wee trawl through my bookmarks. I
looked at Palm-Mac to see if Murray had any late day posts and was refering
to an article by Sheldon at The Morning Paper so I will check that out.
Sammys Palm Addicts just keep posting all day. Just like Murray there is
always something worth reading.
My previous posts show I've been on mytreo.net and memoware checking out
the downloads there. I had a look at www.astaware.com as well. As far as
Palm gaming goes this is the place to start. If you open the above address
on my Treo 600 you are taken to a stripped down mobile friendly version.
Just check the compatibility if your using an older device.
I've checked my email accounts and found confirmation of styluses ( or is
it styli) and memory cards I have ordered earlier today. That me about set
for my daughters birthday. The main thing now will be CD and DVD ripping
and conversion on to the cards for her.
Just a case of waiting for Asda now and trying to get it all into
cupboards, fridge and freezer. I would be a rich man if we didn't eat.

BLUETOOTH

by Palmblogging @ 24.08.2007 - 08:10:01 am

I have always had a laugh at people with Bluetooth handsfree earpieces. I
have wondered with some about their importance that they wear it all the
time incase they miss that all inportant call. You see I have never had a
bluetooth phone. My Nokia and Treo are corded hansfree and were only ever
used in the car and only when I really thought someone was to call.
Bluetooth set with driving yes but is it needed all the time.
Well today I may have changed my view. We are getting a new boiler fitted
and one of the plumbers was Blue toothed up. A few times he was called and
it did not interupt his work. He didn't have to worry about the cord
getting caught or damaged. So in a situation where times money or being
contacted means more work it does come in to its own.
I will now look at it with a new light but shellsuit and ear piece will
still make me wonder what the....

Interview Archives

by Palmblogging @ 23.08.2007 - 08:08:01 pm

I was googling for a while on the Treo and found this. Thought I would just
repeat it hear. If you read Murray site you will see that he has a few
Windows devices now and again now.

Shaun McGill Interview from PDA24/7 Archives

06-08-06, 09:38 PM

Today we have an interview with Murray Alexander who is the man behind
palm-mac.net (http://www.palm-mac.net/page1/page1.html). It's a great site
and well worth a read- I take 'NO' responsibility for his answer to
question 10:)

1/ Murray- tell us a bit about yourself and about palm-mac.net.

I'm 45 but look 55 and smoke too much. Palm-mac is meant to be a slightly
irreverent look at palm. mac and symbian, sometimes cheeky, sometimes funny
but very rarely knowingly knowledgeable.

2/ What device are you currently using and why?

Currently using a T/X, Nokia N80 and I also have a treo 650 lying in a
cupboard somewhere...makes a great draft excluder.

3/ How many devices have you owned and which of your old ones was the best
(and why)?

handspring visor, handspring neo, Tunsgten T,, Tungten C, T5, treo 180, 270
and 600 and some awful sony clie device - the Tungsten T was the best for
its size and power but it had frighteningly poor battery life..'twas a pity

4/ What the best book you have read and the best song you have heard?

best book - "Wicked Beyond Belief" by Michael Bilton (about the Yorkshire
Ripper and the frightening incompetency of the Yorkshire police force at
the time), best song - "Simply Thrilled Honey" by Orange Juice..

5/ Where do you think the PDA industry will be in 2008?

wallowing in a windows world

6/ "Wake wakey guys, windows mobile (yuk) and symbian devices are not only
catching up but frankly are starting to streak past on the inside in terms
of their features..." This is one of your comments from palm-mac.net. Why
"yuk" to Windows Mobile?

see answer to question 5

7/ You add a lot of humour to your site- is that intentional or is that
just the way you are?

very intentional in the sense that I try to be funny and if it works
great... there's too much seriousness in the palm world, we need to throw
off our clothes and dance naked round our pda's...or at the very least have
a wee group hug.

8/ What one feature would you like to see added to a future mobile device
that is not there now?

a button to zap the nearest windows mobile device

9/ Now the most important question. Another quote from your site- "A wee
warning though...remember that Shaun is a self confessed ELO fan so it
might be worth not placing too much emphasis on his opinion..." In 10 words
please describe to our readers what is wrong with ELO?:)

"hey you with the pretty face welcome to the human race" - 11 words but
sums it all up nicely

10/ Anything you would like to add? Make it funny:)

I live my life by an ancient chinese proverb - "man with hand in pocket
feel cocky all day"

Shaun: The picture used is of a man called Alexander Murray (couldn't find
Murray Alexander in Google:)) With regards to "hey you with the pretty face
welcome to the human race" I'm sure you will agree the lyric is a work of
genius- if you are curious about ELO check out "Livin' Thing", "Rockaria!"
and "Can't Get it out of my Head" on iTunes- wonderful stuff!

Tungsten T Enhancement

by Palmblogging @ 19.08.2007 - 10:42:01 pm

I decided to try out Energy Dimmer from from www.79bmedia.com on the
Tungsten T for my wee one. This is a great app that really eeks out battery
life. It gives more flexibilty in brightness control than the built in Palm
os control. You can on certain devices go higher or lower than the built
in. I have used it on the Zire71 and found it essential for ebook reading
as even when set low it was still blinding. So using Energy Dimmer it went
lower and became comfortable. I know the wee one likes the screen bright
but she will learn that it uses the battery quicker

Tungsten Disk

by Palmblogging @ 19.08.2007 - 09:26:01 am

Well I had a lok at the disks that came with the T. I didn't install Palm
Desktop that came with it and it seems to hotsync with the version on the
laptop any way. Out of the additional software disk only the photo viewer
app ended up on the T. I don't think a 6 year old girl is in need of Docs
to Go, Versamail, ereader or Bluetooth utilities just now. I am going to
try Web Browser Pro out on my Zire though.

Tungsten T Progress

by Palmblogging @ 18.08.2007 - 10:30:02 pm

Well I've loaded a dose of games on the T that came this morning. So far so
good no freezes or resets. I won't be able to do much until I get a bid sd
card for video. I had the foresight to down load a Tungsten T update from
Palm.com so the know problems should be covered. I know Palm recalled the
Treo 700 maintainence pack but if you get an older Palm from Ebay or the
like it is worth downloading any available updates.

Why Tungsten T

by Palmblogging @ 18.08.2007 - 12:48:01 pm

Thsi may be a question you are asking. Well my purchase brief was Hires screen and multimedia capability for a to be 6 year old. I wanted something that it wouldn't matter that much if it got damaged as it could be replaced cheaply. I had considered Zire 31s but wanted a good scren for her. My Treo is 160x160 and I really notice the change in quality from the Zire 71 so that made it clear. I looked on Ebay and seen what T's were going for so this one was only £18 +pp. It had no cradle so I thought it would put people of and keep the price down. This wasn't a worry as I have 3 universal cradle already, the Zire, M130 and a spare I got from a friend. So all went well and that's why and how I got a Tungsten T.

Tungsten T loading Apps

by Palmblogging @ 18.08.2007 - 11:44:01 am

The excellent freeware media player from the Core Project is on the T. I
have tried Annie and SpongeBob and they seem to run OK. So that one of the
main requirements of a Palm for Tegan met. The screen is Ok, not as bright
as the Zire but if that is traded against batttery usage then its a sound
comprimise. The fact TCPMP plays video I assume no problems with audio
either so its just a case of games and some utilities that will be hidden
from the wee one.

Its Came

by Palmblogging @ 18.08.2007 - 11:18:01 am

Yes the Tungsten T I won on Ebay for Tegan has arrived this morning. First
things on are LauncherX, Fargo Heap Resizer and DA Launcher with Memory
size DA and AK Utils DA. The heap on the T is a puny 800kb but the resizer
takes it to 1.8 meg. I found that TCPMP ran better on the Zire71 with more
dynamic heap so I thought to use it straight of with the T. I will load
TCPMP this afternoon and give it a try out.

Recharge

by Palmblogging @ 17.08.2007 - 08:18:02 pm

I came home tonight to find my Zire71 in my 5 year olds room. She had been
watching Annie with TCPMP and on exiting it I found it was down to 20
percent charge. So that's it on charge til bedtime for my ebook reading I
will be glad when she gets her own Palm for her birthday.

Mika A Question

by Palmblogging @ 17.08.2007 - 07:52:02 pm

If big girls are so beautiful why aren't there many in TV commercials?

Music on My Treo

by Palmblogging @ 16.08.2007 - 06:38:02 pm

I don't have a lot of music on my 600 just now but with taking of Chitty
Chitty Bang Bang which was 600meg I certainly have space on my 1 gig card.
So what's there Coldplay X+Y, Chilli Peppers and some new age chill out
music. So over the next while I will hopefully put on some Rush, New Order,
The Cure and Holst's Planets. I have a varied in the extreme taste in
music. I need to have a look and see if there is anything else. I still
don't know if I prefer Pocket Tunes or Aeroplayer though and M Ocean just
won't go on the 600. TCPMP gives mp3 playback as well so if space ends up a
premium that will have to do. I got an adapter a while back for the 2.5mm
jack the Treo has to play the audio through my car stereo but just haven't
used it that much.

BBC England

by Palmblogging @ 16.08.2007 - 01:34:01 pm

At long last there are English teams playing Champions League Qualifiers.
The Beeb last night had updated the scores/results pages that I go to with
my Treo. On Tuesday I tried to get the Rangers score and the latest was the
Liverpool V Milan Final from May.
For a UK wide organisation this is absolutely shocking.

Ebooks

by Palmblogging @ 16.08.2007 - 01:34:01 pm

I have read Sammy at Palm Addicts and Murray at Palm-Mac lately and they
both seem to have a problem in buying in to the whole ebook thing on
they're Palms. Me on the other hand I just can't get enough. I know there
is a good argument about costs and fully agree with it but there is a
wealth of free reading around. Memoware, manybooks.net and many online
retailers offer free books. A major source is Project Gutenburg for out of
copyright works. I have read loads by Jules Verne and HG Wells and although
some of the science is wrong now they are still good reads. I know that
since I got my Visor almost 6 years ago I have read more than in my
previous 34 years of life. I reckon I read every night and the odd
lunchtime. So if you've never tried it before grab yourself an Ebook and
try.

Psion Revo

by Palmblogging @ 16.08.2007 - 01:34:01 pm

Yet again I have dragged this out of the drawer at work and got it on
charge. This is still such a good piece of kit after all these years. I am
really going to have to get it to connect with my Treo for email usage. The
Treo keypad is good but not a patch on the Revo. This is a will have to try
harder project.

Statistics For Site

by Palmblogging @ 14.08.2007 - 11:50:01 am

I had a lot at the stats for this little old blog called Palmblogging and
what a shock I got. It seems somebody reads my ramblings. Please feel free
to comment on how you found me and any of you thoughts on my content. I
would really like to thank Murray at Palm-Mac for the link on hos site as
I really think this has increased traffic. Thank you
