Meeting with Treo

by Palmblogging @ 24.06.2007 - 08:40:01 pm

Last night I was at a meeting regarding Parent Councils and I took Treo
along. Funnily with the change I have had at my work I have never had cause
to use a Palm in a meeting for a couple of years. So it was great to be
able to use a keyboarded device to take notes. I thought about using Docs
to Go but ended up on memo. This worked a treat as when I got home I simply
beamed my memo to the printer as it has an Infra Red port and hey presto I
had a printed copy for my file.

Psion Revo

by Palmblogging @ 21.06.2007 - 12:04:02 pm

After seeing the contest on Palm Addicts with a Psion series 7 as one of
the prizes I finally charged my Revo. The aim is to setup as an email
device using Treo as a modem. I have just had a try and no joy. The last
time I tried this I at least gor the talking as the data counter in
Wireless Modem was counting something. So I'll have to play around with it
longer. In doing this I found settings that may allow me to get my Visor
Deluxe on line too.
The Visor caused me a problem last night. For some reason I had a look to
see if its AAA batteries were holding out. They needed changed but while
doing that I got one the wrong way round and cleared the memory as the
power was down too long so I will have to hotsync and restore it later. I
relly don't know the last time it was synced but Im prettty sure that
nothing has been added that I have lost.

Weekend Thoughts

by Palmblogging @ 18.06.2007 - 11:52:01 am

I watched the 25th anniversery of the Falklands Conflict and it got me
thinking a bit about recent history.

My heart goes out for the friends and family of those boys that were lost
and hope their spirits are well and stay close by the loved ones they left
behind.

Just suppose though that the Argentine Mitlitary Junta wass not in peril
and never invaded. Would Thatcher have won the next election? Kinnock could
have been a Socialist Labour Prime Minister. There would have been no New
Labour. No Tony Blair or John Major governments. How would that have
affected the 2 Gulf Conflicts.
It makes you think a bit of what kind of country we would have now. I don't
say it would be better or worse just different.
Well that's all history now

Palm Usage

by Palmblogging @ 18.06.2007 - 11:30:02 am

I don't really think I've done a Palm usage post here, if I did it was a
good while ago and was usage in general.
I usual pick up my Treo from the living room in the morning before my
coffee and fag breakfast. It is on charge every second night as I prefer to
leave the house with more than a half charged battery. I let the battery
get to about 30% then charge it.
So its into the kitchen to cough and slurp coffee. At 8.00am Treo does an
automatic backup to the sd card. I am pleased I do this as I have had an
occasion in the past that required a hard reset to sort out the problem and
I was able to restore my Treo at ease. The one thing I will have to do is
start backing up my sd card contents as I have had probably a handfull of
times that I have corrupted the card and had to format it. I have installed
Card Export on my Treo so no need to blame the card reader. Card Export
also helps if I download stuff at work as I can use the sync n charge cable
I got as a winner on Palm Addicts from www.proporta.com to move it from PC
to card then install.

So it backsup then what? An update of weather and time on Palmary Clock
wireless a download of email and an update of mRSS. These usually being
done on the way to work.
The rest of the day it just works away as a phone, calls and texts. I have
a read of my mRSS feeds at breaks and a scout around the net using Blazer.
Lately I have downloaded a lot of stuff as well.

I still don't use Treo that much at home apart from phone functions since I
mainly use the Zire 71 for that.

Fathers Day

by Palmblogging @ 18.06.2007 - 10:08:02 am

Well that was yesterday and I got a 1gig SD card for my Treo 600. So no
messing last night. I used Card Export to read the card in Treo and not my
dubious card reader or me using it. I copied all the content from my 128
meg card to PC the copied it to the 1gig card again using Card Export with
card in Treo. No problems what so ever. I put some music on it as well.

So all seemed well apps on card worked OK apps run through FlyZip OK books
for Isilo and eReader all OK.But the apps in Power Run played up telling me
128card not there. I went through the menu and found the missing shortcut
thing and did that.Still no joy the in the 2nd column under the menu I
struck gold and was able to delete shortcuts for 128card. This did and Treo
is going strong with all it apps plus heaps of SD memory. I will now get an
adapter for the headphone socket and something to rip DVDs to watch through
TCPMP. This will be great for my 5 year old in the car.

Downloading to Treo

by Palmblogging @ 16.06.2007 - 12:58:01 pm

I had never downloaded many apps to my Treo direct always preferring to PC it as I am on pay and go with Orange. Even with a £4 bundle I had to consider file sizes and hence cost.
Then Orange brought out it £5 a week limited but unlimited thing.
Boy I have downloaded like a good ane.
Astraware allow direct download if you use the www button in Blazer and put astraware.com in it. Do this rather than thro Google. Mobilehand as well. So I've gotten through 15 meg in 2 days.

Weekend Competition @ PA

by Palmblogging @ 16.06.2007 - 12:50:01 pm

Sammy over at Palm Addicts is giving away a load of stuff in a Weekend Comp just now.

Wow Psion Series 7, what a give away that would be in itself. I always look back to those days that a UK firm had a world beating device.

Years back I decided I needed a PDA for work. I had a trainee in my office and they used the loan PC but I still had letters and reports to do that were confidential. I needed a device that would allow creation and editing of Microsoft word 97 files. I so Palm M100, several Pocket PCs and the Psion Revo.

Being a PDA novice then I relied on the inept advice of a salesman and was no further forward. I did a bit of what I know find was lame research and thought that the Revo was the only one to get for my needs. I never realised that Docs to Go and Wordsmith were Palm OS solutions. So I shelled out the money for an end of range Revo.

So I got it setup and it work a treat. The OS was rock solid and never needed resets. The Word and Excel handling was a breeze to use, I could sync my email and carry with me and prepare replies. But best of all it allowed printing through the PC and printer as an inbuilt function.

I used to trawl the net for freeware to fill it 8MB of memory. I had no knowledge of compression apps available so I would clears stuff and archive it on the PC while trying out new programmes and then swap back later if needed. I used it solely until Christmas 2001 When I got a Visor Deluxe and the world of Palm opened to me. I still have that Revo from 2000 and my partner still hasn't found out about it or the £140 pounds it cost after 7 years.

My latest project is to get the Revo setup for email with my Treo 600 as a modem. It would be handy having its great keyboard for writing mail.

When Psion stopped producing PDAs I always wished Palm would step in and produce a clam/ small laptop style devices and used the Epoc OS.

So if you are the lucky winner and have never had a Psion before your in for a treat

Palm Screen

by Palmblogging @ 12.06.2007 - 12:02:01 pm

Getting a bit worried now that the funny blob on my Treo 600 is getting
worse. It still doesn't effect its function but could be an excuse to get a
650 or 680. I really don't think I could go back to a normal phone or use a
smart phone with a numeric keypad. It would have to be a Treo. I said to my
other half the other day that I should have gotten her a 270 instead of a
Palm M130. I will have to have look on Ebay soon to start lineing up a
replacement and get Palms for the 3 younger ones. Tegan still wants a Zire
71 like mine for her birthday and M130s would do the other 2 for Christmas.

by Palmblogging @ 11.06.2007 - 09:08:02 pm

I know this is not as unlimited as they make out but to day it was great
downloading a 600k email attachment and not thinking that it was that
expensive. I still have a go at Pocket Tunes and Internet radio. I am
currently listening to Sky 80s 80s 80s. Due you think the 80s is the new 60s

Oh Dear

by Palmblogging @ 11.06.2007 - 06:56:02 pm

I will really have to start showing a bit of commitment here and try to
post more often. Life just seems very busy just now and Palm posts are away
down my list of things to do. Recently Treo got an outting to a Parents
Council Planning Meeting at my daughters Primary school. It was fun being
able to check things that were said against www.parentzonescotland.gov.uk
to see if it was fact.

Internet Radio

by Palmblogging @ 02.06.2007 - 10:28:01 am

After Orange starting the unlimited data for PAYG. I decided to give the
radio stearming in Pocket Tunes a bash. Great music on the go with no need
for MP3 on my puny 128 mb SD card.
Will have to find urls for my fav stations to try them out. The Treo
happens to be the size of a pocket radio we have at work. Will really have
to get an adapter now
