Snappermail

by Palmblogging @ 29.03.2007 - 08:56:01 am

In my ongoing use of Snappermail one of the most useful things is that it
can be toggled between finger and stylus modes. It is great to leave the
stylus in its holder and use a finger. I think that still irks that some
apps still need a few stylus taps. A phone is more single hand thing and
unless its an app that tapping is integral part it would be fine if most
were finger friendly or fully 5 way button compatible over the vary 5 ways
available.

Missing the Obvious

by Palmblogging @ 27.03.2007 - 06:04:01 pm

Is it a male thing that sometimes the answer to something staring you in
the face or is lying in your pocket and you just don't think.
2 things recently that has confirmed this to me are both Treo related.
Today my daughter was part of a school concert. I was all organised got
there in plenty time and got a seat. Fine I thought until it dawn on me
that I had forgotten a camera. My digi camera would get some snaps and
maybe even record a few minutes of video. Damn I thought but thought it to
late to sort thing I will just watch.
When I left the hall I put my hand in my pocket and it came to rest on my
Treo 600. Ok the camera is not great but it takes snaps and I had loaded on
MovieRec a while ago so would have gotten video. Great typical male it
dawns on me 1 and a half hours late.

The second incident actually occur earlier and should have been a wake up
call in realising the potential use of this lump of gedgetery I carry with
me almost all the time.

Sunday night 9.30pm in the local chinese I was getting really subtle hassle
from some one. What they said they were very careful with not to openly be
threatening but the person with them made it clear I was under threat. When
I got home I realised it was hard to explain what happened. It was only
then that I thought that I could have used SoundRec to record what had
happened.
I know I think in pretty Palmwise and know about software that's around and
the OS but sometimes I really forget the use my Treo can be put to. It was
I who put the apps above on I know they are there but still dobt use them
at the most opportune times.

WordPop - Palm OS Software

by Palmblogging @ 27.03.2007 - 10:56:01 am

The goal of WordPop! is to clear all the letters from the board by making
words. To start a new game, tap Easy, Medium, or Hard.

To make a word, tap adjoining Letter Tiles, then tap the Check button. If
the word is accepted, those letters disappear from the board.

Commonly used words -- including nouns, verbs (all tenses and gerunds),
adjectives, adverbs, etc. -- are accepted. Hyphenated words, abbreviations,
contractions, acronyms, and words that require capitalization are not
accepted.

Words are scored based on each letter's point value and the number of
letters in the word. In general, longer words are worth more points.

High-scoring words earn random Bonus Tiles, displayed in the bin on the
right. Blank Bonus Tiles can be used as any letter.

To place a Bonus Tile, tap it and then tap an empty square on the board.
Then simply tap tiles to make a word as usual.

Easy level begins with three blank Bonus Tiles. You earn an additional
blank Bonus Tile each time you clear the board. Medium level starts with
one blank Bonus Tile. You earn an additional random Bonus Tile each time
you clear the board. Hard level starts with no Bonus Tiles--you have to
earn them!

To shake things up and see some new letter combinations, tap the Rotate
button. The board turns a quarter-turn clockwise.

To end your current game, tap the X button or choose New Game from the Game
Menu. (To display the Game Menu, tap near the top of the screen.)

Photo messaging

by Palmblogging @ 26.03.2007 - 11:56:01 am

Actually used this for the first time on my Treo last night. I just never
had any need or inclination to do it. At first it didn't send but changed
the connection from GPRS to MMS it sat for a while and when I least
expected it the message went. I don't know if I will use it again but at
least it worked. I did send a text to find out if the picture arrived.

Sheep - PalmOS Software

by Palmblogging @ 24.03.2007 - 10:42:01 pm

Sheep

The goal of the play is to bring back all the sheep and the rams to the
sheep-fold. The sheep-fold is on the left of the screen.
To do that you must push back the sheep and the rams using your dogs and
your shepherd.
So you select using the pen or the second button on the left of the screen
your characters and indicate by a tap on the field the direction where they
must go.
To begin a new game, tap on the first button, and then you can select the
size of the field, the size of the sheep-fold, the number of sheep, the
number of dogs and the speed of the game.

Handyshopper - PalmOS Software

by Palmblogging @ 24.03.2007 - 03:00:01 pm

Here's how to shop with HandyShopper:

1 — Select the 'All' view.
2 — Check off needed items (or add items to database and check them off).
3 — Select the 'Need' view.
4 — Go shopping at one store.
5 — Check off items as you put them in your cart.
6 — Pay for the items.
7 — Use the Checkout command (on the menu). *
8 — Go back to step 4 to shop at another store.

* Checkout resets the list for the next store. This tells HandyShopper you purchased the items, otherwise they'll still appear in the Total at the next store. Checkout also deletes completed items that are marked for Auto-delete.

Yes to Convergence

by Palmblogging @ 23.03.2007 - 11:12:01 am

Today my other half had to house sit for her sister. The heating has went
and the council and heating engineer are meeting to discuss what is to
happen so someone has to be there. If they decide on flushing the system it
will take 4 hours. Since someone has to be there while work is done herself
went well prepare. Juice, 20 Lambert and Butler, mobile, MP3 player and M130
all packed. Just a moment ago while I was at work I though that's a helluva
stuff to take but I have a Treo just a 600 but still a Palm OS5 so plays
MP3, its a phone and does all the stuff a Palm can do. Date book, note
taking and games. I know I have done well gadgetizing my girlfriend and I
maybe pushing it but one day I'll have to stick her T-Mobile sim in the
Treo and let her use it for a day and see how it goes.

Pay Day

by Palmblogging @ 22.03.2007 - 09:48:01 pm

Well pay day tomorrow so I'm going to have another look at Ebay at the
older Palms still fancy a Treo 90 for creating post at bedtime with its
handy keyboard. I have thought about a Plalm for our 5 year old but the
games she likes are some that only work on OS5. This would mean a newer
device than mum and more expence. So I'll look anyway and see what's there.
Might see what Revos are going for and think about ditching mine if the
prices are reasonable.

Parents Night and Palm

by Palmblogging @ 22.03.2007 - 10:58:02 am

Last night we had High School Parents Night for our 14 year old. We knew
that there would be a lot of waiting around for appointment times. My other
half said about taking her M130 to pass the time. I thought about both my
Treo and Zire71 and it just struck me that both had cameras and may not be
welcome in the school. I took my Treo but it stayed firmly in my pocket and
wasn't use to pass time.
I probably wouldn't have used it though as even after all these years using
Palms, both at work and for leisure, I still feel self conscious in public
with it. I still have this fear of being looked on as a geek.

SD Cards are Tough

by Palmblogging @ 21.03.2007 - 09:40:01 am

Saw this on Palm Addicts thought it a real good story to post here. Hope
Sammy and Doug ok with me repeating it.

From Doug Wilcox a post to PA .We live in a rural area in Manitoba, Canada.
One January a couple of years ago my wife went to town for the day at the
start of a snowstorm to do some shopping. By the time she returned there
were several inches of snow and it was still coming down like crazy. To get
to the house she had to make several trips dodging the blowing snow as she
juggled and hauled in the groceries and all her accessories from the
vehicle to the house. I had to work late that night and when I finally got
home there was nearly a foot of snow and we settled in to whether out the
snow storm and I began to dread the coming day of shoveling.
As we were about ready to go to bed my wife went to synchronize her new
Christmas gift from me, a Zire 71, which she had used for grocery shopping
(via Handy Shopper) earlier that day, and that is when the panic set in -
she couldn't find it. We thoroughly searched the vehicle and house to no
avail. She was certain it was in the vehicle when she got home and it was
roughly midnight when we realized the most likely situation - she had
likely dropped it in the snow between the vehicle and the house while
emptying the vehicle. As it was dark out and the Zire had likely already
lain in the deep snow for 6 hours already, whatever damage could be done
was done, so we decided we would wait until morning when the storm would be
over and we would have daylight to dig through the snow to search for it -
we went to bed thinking that there was still hope for her Zire.
We have a friendly neighbor with a big snow blower. There is nothing more
he enjoys than to surprise us after doing his own lane than doing ours -
often without asking. Normally that is a good thing. That night while we
were in bed our friendly neighbor came over and blew out our lane -
including the pathway from the vehicle to the house. That morning was one
of mixed emotions - relief at knowing I could get out of our yard without
any shoveling and agony at seeing shreds of my wife's Zire spread over the
distant snow drifts. The site of a recently purchased Palm after it has
passed through a snow blower shredder is not pretty - a few tears were shed.
My wife had grown used to her new Zire and it didn't take long for us to
get a replacement. The following May, after snow melt, I hunted around in
the grass and was surprised when I found intact the small 64MB SanDisk
Secure Digital (SD) memory card that was in the shredded Zire. Considering
it had been digested by the snow blower and sat outside snow pile for 5
months it was relatively unscathed. I have read that SD cards are very
robust so for kicks we stuck the weathered SD card in the replacement Zire
- and it worked. In fact she still uses that SD card today - and my wife is
a lot more careful when transporting her Zire around.

Herself and M130

by Palmblogging @ 19.03.2007 - 11:48:01 pm

So its old and obsolete compared to current Palm PDAs such as the TX and E2
but it still does the job. Tonight herself has been on and of her M130 all
night. Pymamid Solitaire I think, I've just not asked. She is really happy
with it. I got her an MP3 player for Valentines and this for Mothers Day so
she's becoming a gadget girl.
But there is method in this, its all about relaxation and emptying the head.

Football

by Palmblogging @ 19.03.2007 - 07:06:01 pm

You'll have noticed a lack of mention about the great AFC, that's Aberdeen
not Arsenal. Well we got humped on Saturday 3-0 by Rangers. The chance of
being 1 point behind is a reality of being 7 behind now. One ray of light
was Hearts also got beat.
So it looks more likely it will be UEFA not Champions League next year.

Mothers Day Gifts

by Palmblogging @ 19.03.2007 - 01:16:02 pm

I showed my 5 year old the M130 for her mum lasy night and she was OK about
it, no hissy fit that she wanted it not mum get it. So Sunday morning mum
got the M130 and has been Palming on and of since then. It has been one of
those little fix things. A bit of Text Twist, a bit of Palmjongg, a bit of
Bejewelled and Pyramid Solitaire. She is really please with her gift but a
bit annoyed as I just used Mothers Day as an excuse to finally get her a
Palm.

M130 is here

by Palmblogging @ 16.03.2007 - 03:36:01 pm

After the non delivery the other day The M130 I got on Ebay for £20 has some software on it and sitting charging. What a pocketable device. Ok the spec aint cutting edge just a 33mhz processor but has a colour screen and a SD slot to help out the 8 meg on the hand held. I have loaded a few things already but it was losing charge. I think it will need a few before the battery is at full strength.
It will be for my other half to help pass time if waiting any where. I am doing that just now, waiting in a carpark for her and little one to come back to school after a trip.
I have already put on FlyZip and PowerRun to help out the ram. Well that's the bus so I'll post this just now and more about theM130 later.

Royal Mail

by Palmblogging @ 15.03.2007 - 12:58:02 pm

Well got home yesterday and there was a card from the Postie. It said he
had tried to deliver a package but it was to large for the letter box. Oh
that will be the Palm M130 from Ebay I thought but never told herself that
as its for her. I said to Debbie it was just a litttle something for her
and she left it at that. So anyway that left me needing to phone the depot
to arrange redelivery.
I phoned this morning and made 3 attempts letting it ring for ages before I
got someone. I know that the depot is busy but any time I have had to phone
them its allways the same thing. You really would think that they would
have a manned phone for stuff like that. Well I have arranged for delivery
tomorrow as I am of work to see to stuff anyway. I hopefully will have the
M130 in my hands by lunchtime tomorrow.

Treo Resetting

by Palmblogging @ 14.03.2007 - 10:56:01 am

I have had 2 resets on my Treo this morning sofar and both saying it is
Launcher X that has caused then so for the next few days I will use the
standard Palm launcher to see how it goes. If I am not getting the resta
then it must be a problem with Launcher X so I will have to see about a new
launcher.
I will be able to see over the next few days if I really do need a launcher
or if the standard one will do. I have used Launcher X so long I really
wonder if I will manage with out it.
I think the main reason for using it is the handling and catagorizing of
apps on the SD card. Palm isn't very good by lumping them all together
while most launchers let you. So its a case of just suck and see.

ITV Play

Glad to see ITV Play is being axed. As someone who has had DTT since

just hope ITV consider resurecting Carlton Cinema.
