Mobile Ebay

by Palmblogging @ 28.02.2007 - 04:52:01 pm

As I am looking at old Palms on Ebay I tried the bookmark I had in Blazers Bookmarks and found it not working. So I used the one on the Orange mobile homepage and hey presto I was there. So here it is www.ebaymobile.co.uk/mobile/mobile/Home.do

New Phone Laws

by Palmblogging @ 28.02.2007 - 01:14:01 pm

So you can't touch your mobile while driving. Right then. You have a bluetoothed phone and a bluetoothed Palm. You have an sms programme on Palm. So you don't have to touch the phone. You get points and a fine for touching your phone but what about all these SatNavs. If they are left where would that place PDAs. Just have to wait until it happens to find out. It will be some one on way to work checking on their PDA using bluetooth connection to phone but not actually using the phone. Just leaves me ?????????????

Treo Camera

by Palmblogging @ 28.02.2007 - 01:02:02 pm

Just been using my Treo camera. At work we have an aviary for budgies and this kestrel was sitting on the ground watching them. So it was out with Treo 600 and got a few pics. I emailed one to the office PC and the result was a tiny photo at the bottom of the email. Now the Treo camera I thought would be similar to my Zire71's but no it's not. I have hardly used the Treo camera and have never really bother about its results but now I will have to look and see if I can improve on it with other software. I have added on of the pics for you to see.

by Palmblogging @ 27.02.2007 - 12:32:01 pm

There was a news report on our local radio station Kingdom FM about the fears about puppy farms and putting folk of them. I'd never go to a puppy farm. I prefer free range you can taste the difference :-)

PDA Essentials Magazine

by Palmblogging @ 26.02.2007 - 11:20:02 pm

This was a magazine I got every month without fail. I used to look forward to the end on the month when it was due out. I remember when I had my Psion Revo and got Issue 1 in a petrol station in Rosyth. It was great, a cd of software and all that info about Palm, Ipaqs and Psions. It was because of what I read that I decided on a Visor Deluxe. Every now and again there were free apps on the disc and they were full versions of rated software. But alas you will notice all this is nostalgia and past tense. Yes but I got this months edition and its went the way of PC World, all Windows and SatNav.
I may be being hard on PDA Essentials as they are reporting on the market, SatNav is the big " I want" just now, Psion is dead although its child Symbian survives in various form and Palm are hardly churning out new models. And that is maybe the point why is Palm struggling to be up there. Let me ask you some questions.
When did you last see a tv advert for a Treo in the UK?
When did you last see a Sony/ Nokia/ Motorola advert?
Have you noticed phones in CSI:NY or Ugly Betty and did you see they were Treos?
Did you ever see the Treo 270 on QVC a few years ago?
You see while an icon in the US Treos are almost unknown here. Del Boy Trotter use to say speculate to accumulate so even he had a better grasp of UK marketing than Palm.
If there is talk of Palm dying then they never really helped themselves in the UK.

Hopefully More Posting

by Palmblogging @ 26.02.2007 - 11:08:01 am

After a week in which I didn't post much at all I think we're back to full speed now. Just had a squint thro my feeds on mRSS and noticed complaints to BBC about Top Gear and the train thing. What? I thought to myself. I have just found out about the train derailment on Friday. Even though I have a Treo with internet capability I never heard this. Yes I've been online with Treo I've even be online with the laptop but the sites I've been to are Palm or techy so no news. It just shows you how disconnected with the world you can become. If you wonder I have listened to the radio and been wathing TV.

Useful but unused

I have downloaded to my Treo the Following Butler, Phone Technician, Volume Care and Bright Cam. These are all well known in Treo circles and well praised apps but none are activated why? Because in scared I cause more instability in my Treo I have daily resets any way and don't want to cause more. Maybe a read of the instructions for the apps and a hard reset and reinstall for Treo is required

Celestine Prophesy

by Palmblogging @ 25.02.2007 - 09:52:01 pm

I have read this a couple of times before but while at a car boot sale yesterday I picked up the book with the Tenth Insight. I also got the Celesstine Prophesy its self and a couple of companion books that go along with it. I thourgh recommend reading this as it gives you a different perspective on human interactions in terms of energy. By the way I also got M. Scott Peck's The Road Less Travelled. All 5 books cost a tenner so 2 quid a book. If you get a chance of buy THE Celestine Prophesy do so as it is a good storey even if you don't buy into the new age side of things.

Text Twist

by Palmblogging @ 25.02.2007 - 08:10:01 pm

As I have mentioned earlier this is one of my favourite Palm games. Available at www.astraware.com it just keeps me going. I had played a couple of rounds a night for more than a week and set a new high score of over 150,000. I have added a screen shot to show this. The following is the instruction on how to play.
OBJECT
Find at least one word that uses all the letters from the six provided. Manage this before the countdown ends to move on to the next level. Find all of the words for bonus points.

HOW TO PLAY

Tap on the balls to form a word, then tap the ENTER button. If the word is in the dictionary for the game, it will show up on the left-hand side of the game. Use the TWIST button when you get stuck to help you see other words. Use the clear button to clear all the selected letters or tap on an individual letter to clear only one letter.

HINTS

Text Twist includes an extra button 'Last Word' which can really help to speed up entering similar words! If you think of a word and enter it - maybe it has a plural, in which case tap 'Last Word', add on the S and hit enter! Much faster than spelling out the whole word, and you'll probably need to use tricks like this to get all of the words entered in time!

Just thought I would post something work related. I am a Horticultural Instructor at a training centre and boy is the year moving now. From now til May its all hand on deck to get the bedding plants ready for summer sales. Today we finished all the sowing so once big enough it will be a case of moving on to trays. I am really luck that my job involves something I loved as a hobby. I get paid to garden and grow plants. It sometimes doesn't seem like work. How good does it get.

For a freeware method of getting video nd mp3 on your Palm its great. I use Kinoma Producer to get files to a reasonable size for the 1gig card I have. It does take a while though. Noviremote

by Palmblogging @ 20.02.2007 - 06:46:01 pm

I have this on Zire 71 and find it invaluble. We have a couple of things with dodgy remotes so they are learned before they die giving a longer life to tv's and things. In this day and age that kids have loads of audio/video equipment it great to cary one dvice when changing to summer time or updating channel line ups.

GETTING STARTED

NoviiRemote is a software program which provides a convenient means of controlling your home entertainment devices, such as TVs, VCRs, satellite and cable boxes, right from your handheld computer.

TO USE NoviiRemote, you must allow the program to "learn" the infrared signals from your remote controls. The program works by beaming infrared signals stored in special databases called codebases.

To control your device, you must select the proper category (TV, Cab/Sat, DVD/CD, VCR, Audio or PVR), and then assign a name to the active codebase which will control your device. Next, simply tap the virtual images of each remote button on the screen of your handheld while pushing the corresponding buttons on your remote control.

If you do not have the proper codebases, go to the Home Devices form and use the Add button to create a new codebase, and learn the codes from the original remote controls of your devices.

Use the Home Devices form to do routine operations on your codebases, including creation, learning, assigning a hot codebase, deletion, etc.

Use the Hard Buttons form to learn what each button on your handheld will do, or to customize the hard buttons on your handheld with the most typical actions. For example, you may customize the hard buttons to change the channels and the volume level.

Cars, Cars,Cars yet again

by Palmblogging @ 20.02.2007 - 12:42:01 pm

Well last Friday on way to work my alternator belt went. I stopped car but on starting it wrapped the bit that was left and through of the timming belt. Well got it home to garage through free RAC cover I got with my insurance. So no problem there. At the garage I asked them ti have a look at it remembering it needs a MOT next month. I called today and it looks like my cars died. The shockers ans steering rack need done but the floor needs welding yet again for the Third year in a row. I thought it would come to this though. So anyone needing a 3 month old Punto 75 M plate exhaust let me know.

Best Mobile Game

by Palmblogging @ 14.02.2007 - 04:32:02 pm

Seen this on www.digitalspy.co.uk

The winners of the 12th annual GSM Association awards were announced last night at Barcelona's National Palace and I-Play's The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo picked up the gong for 'Best Made for Mobile Game'.

The game, which has recorded over a million downloads in just over five months, receives this award after it picked up 'Best Racing/Driving Game' of the year by IGN Wireless late last year.

David Gosen, CEO at I-Play, said, "We're very proud of our Fast and Furious franchise and to have won the GSM Awards for Best Mobile Game for the second year in a row is fantastic for the company, in particular for our development team who worked incredibly hard to create such an innovative game around the popular 'drifting' phenomenon. The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo has been the biggest game launch in I-Play's history to date and is unmatched by any other racing game on the mobile platform."

Commenting on the award, the GSM judging panel said, "This stood out for its universal attraction, intuitive design and sheer playability."

Valentines Day

by Palmblogging @ 14.02.2007 - 10:24:01 am

Well herself was more than pleased at the MP3 player and really glad I had put her relaxation stuff on. She wants her grounding cd copied on and she'll be all the way. Last night she had a wee listen in bed and drifted of wherever when it was on.

For the first time in ages I listen to music on Zire 71 forgot how handy it is for this. I will have to get the music on it organised and put fresh on at some point. I may even put the stuff that's on her MP3 player on the Zire as well and chill myself.

Just gave my other half her Valentines present a Durabrand MP3 player from Asda. It has 256 meg of memory. I loaded it with 4 of her relaxation and meditation cds roughly 30 tracks so she can use it for chilling out. Great idea if you on a budget and your beloved doesn't have one. Load it with slushy tracks or songs with a message. If you get one you know how much your worth.

Richard Branson has told boyband McFly that he wants to send them into space.

The Virgin executive explained that he is offering space trips to individuals from 2009 and wants the singers to be among the first to go into orbit.

"McFly are lovely guys," Branson told The Mirror at the launch of Virgin Media this week. "I'm totally up for it."

The group's drummer Harry Judd added: "We'd have to go to Nasa in America for a three-day course to become proper astronauts."

City Time for Palm

by Palmblogging @ 11.02.2007 - 02:24:01 pm

I first came across Citytime on my Handspring Visor Deluxe and really loved what it did. There was a world map showing a shaded area representing nighttime. This tracks across as time passes. Touching places on the map gav you the current time. It was only in greyscale but great. When I got my Zire71 I just had to get it again.

The hires screen allows you to zoom in as well as a sharper display. If your looking for a world clock this could be it.

My only complaint is that at daylight saving changes there seems to be a battle between this and the Palm OS as to who should change the time.

Memory Recovery

by Palmblogging @ 10.02.2007 - 09:02:01 am

Just recovered a good chunk of memory on Zire 71. The 71 only has 16 meg of which 13.4 is available so anything eating into it is a concern. So when I looked at Versamail and saw my 39 messages in my sent box I thought that may be the problem. Right enough there was about 700k worth as the messages also had photo attachments. It just shows that you have to remember to spring clean your emails every so often. I should not bother saving my post mails and since I dont receive mail on the Zire I have no fear of deletes on the mail server. So there is really no excuse is there.
